The Predator. CM3. If everything stays on pace, he’ll have another nickname to adorn… Defensive Player of the Year. All grand nicknames for the Packers, nay the NFL’s most explosive defenses player. In two games, Clay Matthews has already accumulated 6 sacks on the season, adding an additional three to his number last week against the lowly Bills. Matthews now has 15 sacks in 15 games if you want to get picky and go back to his rookie campaign.
I’ll admit, when Ted Thompson jumped into this draft and nabbed up Matthews, I was a skeptic. Out of the three USC linebackers I thought either of his teammates would have made more adequate fits. This is one of those times I’m so happy I was wrong. Ray Maluaga, although with explosive talent, seems to have nagging injuries constantly. Brian Cushing although being defensive rookie of the year, has the cloud of performance enhancing drugs circling his name right now, and perhaps the rest of his career.
As exciting as it was to watch the Claymaker to go unscathed against any contender, the thing that struck me the most, and perhaps the move that had chills going down my spine, was Matthews newest signature move… the PREDATOR. Much like the death defying hunters of the sci-fi world, Matthews fits this signature move perfectly. Take out your prey, triumph mightily. Plain and simple, this is what CM3 does as well.
This new celebration by The Predator is definitely a top 5 in Packer adorned moves, but does it take the number one spot? Take a look at KDA’s top 5 Packer celebrations.

5) Brett Favre – “Gunslinger”

I wish I could find a video of this one but I can’t. (If anyone can, let me know!) Yes, I know I can’t even get through this one stupid post without saying his name, let alone ackowledging him but I personally loved this move when he daunted it. After throwing the ball, Favre would pull out the “guns”, shoot em off at the receiver that just completed the pass, and put em away back in the holsters. A quick celebration, that always brought a smile to my face. Can’t do that much now-a-days though, can you Brett…

4) Donald Driver – “The First Down Shake”

Nothing crazy, nothing overly cocky or difficult. But this simple shoulder shimmy followed by the first down signal, can get an already Packer crowd cranked to 11. Although DD uses this move almost every chance he can get, he respects the move. You won’t see this move if their down by 30. You won’t see this move if he got the first by a PI call. You see the move when the momentum is needed and the hard work has been earned. The move characterizes the player to a T.

3) Charles Woodson – “The Pose”
I would LOVE to give this the number one spot, but football be damned, I just can’t. Yes, the first time I saw the pose I was only 6, and it wasn’t even Chuck, but it was another former Packer (And my favorite during his brief stunt with the team)… Desmond Howard threw down the Heisman pose after the punt return vs. Ohio State. Fast forward to last year at Detroit on Thanksgiving. Woodson gets the pick-6, and throws it down. I literally shed a tear. The celebration, deservedly so can’t be broken out all the time, but the downside to this, it will never be my number one.

3) Aaron Rodgers – “The Belt”

I LOVE this move. The champion deserves to don the championship belt, and the belt fits A-Rod just fine. Only brought in the rarest of occasions, we generally see the move after a rushing TD. I wouldn’t mind seeing this one a little more often either. Here’s one brought out just for the fans, HOLY TORNADO!

Clay Matthews – “Predator”

His old move of the bow and arrow was good, but the Predator is legendary. I could get used to watching this all year.

Kevin Kolb

Trent Edwards

On Deck: Jay Cutler

In the Hole: Shaun Hill/Matthew Stafford

1) Everyone – “Lambeau Leap”

Obviously the number one. Signature for the franchise, it has become a way of life for the Packers. Everyone wants to do the leap and get $8.00 beers dropped all over them. The move is so embodied by the franchise the jump has become an illegal form of celebration everywhere else EXCEPT in Titletown. Created by Edger Bennet, made famous by Robert Brooks, the move is now a stable to the community. The latest famous leap was a not-so-great one but when the leader of the Pack, A-Rod does it… it doesn’t even matter.

So there you have it folks, was this a worthy top 5? How would you have graded it? What would you have added?

P.S. Bonus A-Rod clip because I can.

BFFL Report: Desperation Edition

You’d think with another week in the books that we would have more closure for the playoff picture. We were naive to think this. Don’t worry, it’s ok if you fell for it, I did too. I figured by the end of last week, we’d have 5 spots figured out, and watch 2 or 3 teams fight for the final spot, like the Joker made those henchmen do so in The Dark Knight. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me… fool me three times, how did we not see it coming? One thing happened for sure, and congratulations to Pleuss, as his team would slip through the cracks and sneak into at least the 4th seed, possibly 3rd. He joins the elite status that only owners, Durkee, Andy, and Andy can call home.

The five way tie at 5th proves that my rule of sixes does not have to happen. The scenario in front of us shows that a five win team can make it in, although the chances are slim. I know our commish just went through this last week, but we still have more storylines than a WWE show, so we’re going to go through the potential 5th and 6th ticket winners quickly.

Keps Mob Squad (5-7) Current status: 5th Seed

How they stays in:

This one’s easier said than done, but all Pete has to do is win. The match up however for The Squad is less than favorable as he goes up against the first place team Wackers in our final week.

If they lose?

The 5-8 mark isn’t the death of the Squad if he does lose. The Squad can still sneak into the 6th seed The Seal Clubbers and Turducken Clan take the loss. Both MUST lose though because one of the 5-7 teams in the MLSP/Cane’s match up will be ending up 6-7, so only room for one 5-8.

The Seal Clubbers (5-7) Current status: 6th Seed

How they stay in:

Again, win and in. The only way Peeters could lose his stronghold is if the winner of the MLSP/Canes matchup scores around 190 points. 5th seed is also still up for grabs, if Koeppen loses, or if they surpass Pete in overall points which again, is highly unlikely. The 110 point stomping Jesse put on last week was huge for tiebreaker purposes as well, as it helped the Clubbers surpass Hurricane Ditka by a solid 38 points, (977.8) which he was previously under the Canes.

If they lose?

Pretty much the same scenario as Pete, if Jesse loses he needs to start praying to the BFFL gods that both the Clan and the Squad lose, because unfortunately both the Canes and MLSP can’t lose.

Hurricane Ditka (5-7) Current status: OUT

How they get in:

Like I stated above, thanks to the mud stomping that Jesse put on Pete in week 12 the overall points took a shift into the Clubbers favor, thus pushing the ‘Canes down to 7th and currently out of the playoffs. So, how do they get in? I wish it was as easy as a win and in, but it isn’t anymore. A win must happen but also either The Clubbers or the Mob Squad need to take a fall. There is a chance that the Canes could re-take the overall points back from Jesse but it’s currently a 38 point deficit.

If they lose?

Out with a window the size of a sheet of paper to climb back in. If I lose, MLSP would go 6-7 putting him ahead of me. Now, both Clubbers and Squad would need to lose after that, PLUS I would need to overtake Jesse in overall points, which again is about 38, before Jesses points even go on the board.

MLSP (5-7) Current status: OUT

How they get in:

Much like the Canes, a win just wont suffice. The Pets will need to call for help from either Durkee or PI to beat either The Clubbers or The Squad. If that happens, then a playoff spot is there.

If the lose?

Out. Unless the team can build up a 80 point day and that’s to say Jesse only puts up 1 point… it ain’t happening.

Turducken Clan (5-7) Current status: OUT

How they get in:

Is a wing and a prayer an option? Kidding, The Clan is very much alive yet. The Clan obviously needs a win, that’s the first step. After that outside help is definitely required as the Clubbers and the Squad need to lose. About 58 points behind Hurricane Ditka and only about 16 from MLSP, the perfect scenario would be a Canes loss to top it all off, but right now the Clan should just focus on winning.

If they lose?

Out. If you thought MLSP’s chances of making it in on a loss were slim, double goes to the Clan.

To the Wackers, Warriors, Steelers, and PI, I’m sorry your names were rarely called in this weeks desperation edition, but you four got something better than name drops… you have stress free Sundays. You have little to worry about going into the final week as the five mentioned about will be biting out nails, pulling out graying hair, and staring at TV screens for twelve plus hours. As for Bryan… sorry man, good luck getting that number one pick, I heard Randy Moss might be available.

GOTW: Sounds weird but, Keps Mob Squad vs. God’s Tallywacker. Pete has one of the largest mountains to climb even though he’s currently in the 5th seed… for he has to play the number one team in the league. If he wins, he’s the hero that showed us the one seed is mortal. If he goes down, all hell could break lose beneath him.

Upset of the week: None. Things appear to be pretty tightly sealed this week. As for us 5-7 guys, this isn’t a good thing. Not going to say it, but keep an eye on the Mob Squad.

Hello readers, this is your humble Commissioner Andyman! I decided to give Danno a week off and write this week’s review; not so much because I thought Danno needed a week off, but because I am really excited about the playoffs! So this week’s article will be chock full of playoff predictions and scenarios, as well as a little bit of review from the last week.

Gridiron Warriors def. Bry’s Gamers 96.6 – 66

The best versus the worst this week, and they both played like it (fortunately for the Warriors, unfortunately for the Gamers) The Warriors got a bounce back season-best performance out of Big Ben with 28.7, but I am going to have to hope Romo can turn things around with Big Ben suffering a concussion and out for who knows how long. The surprise benching of Frank Gore for Kevin Smith worked out in the Warriors’ favor, with Smith putting up 16.8 points (to Gore’s 9.1 on the bench) The late pickup of Kevin Boss also helped seal the fate of the Gamers, as he caught two touchdowns for the Warriors. The Gamers did all they could, but it is hard to do much when your team underachieves.

God’s Tallwacker def. Blue Steelers 94.9 – 94.6

Wow, Game of the Week for very good reason. Durkee had to have been shaking in his boots all night watching Schaub throw it all over the field, and he barely walked away from this one victorious. But at this point in the season, and really at any time, a win is a win. Dave drops 2 straight after his monster win streak, but he is still in very good position for the playoffs.

Magnum PI def. My Little Spandex Pets 97 – 70.5

Nate did his best to play his matchups this week, but nothing seemed to work out in his favor. Add to that the fact that the trade he and Andy made just last week (Ronnie Brown for Chad Ochocinco) was for naught, as Brown went on IR during the week, and you have a recipe for a loss. Manning was a bit off for PI, but 3 other guys put up double-digit points (including Ricky William’s 27.4 in place of the injured Brown – insult to injury right there) to cover for Manning, and PI has secured himself a playoff berth.

Hurricane Ditka def. Seal Clubbers 100.5 – 76

Despite the fact that Hurricane Ditka had a 35 point lead going into Monday Night’s game, he was not chalking up a victory. That is because the lifeblood of the Seal Clubbers, Chris Johnson, has averaged 27 points the last 3 weeks and put up 36 the last time he faced Houston – the very team he was playing last night. Thankfully for Danno, Johnson put up only 10.5 points, and Danno notches his second straight victory to put himself in good position for one of the final playoff spots. Jesse still has an outside chance, but Chris Johnson will have to do better than 10.5 points (as we have said – as CJ goes, so Slip goes)

The Turducken Clan def. Kep’s Mob Squad 92.4 – 86.8

Danno’s upset pick comes through once again, and again in thrilling fashion. Kyle was definitely feeling good, knowing he had one of the best WRs in the game going on Monday night, and according to the Clan owner, “I was screaming when I saw him catch that touchdown.” It was the turning point for this matchup, and moved both teams to 5 – 6 and right back into the middle of the playoff picture.

With 11 weeks officially in the books, and only 2 weeks left in the regular season, we start to turn our focus to the playoffs. With the Week 11 games, the picture became a little clearer, but there is a still a bit of uncertainty, especially when you look at the final two spots. Let’s take a look at what we have for the standings:

God’s Tallywacker: 8 – 3
Gridiron Warriors: 8 – 3
Magnum PI: 7 – 4
Blue Steelers: 6 – 5
Kep’s Mob Squad: 5 – 6
Hurricane Ditka: 5 – 6
The Turducken Clan: 5 – 6
My Little Spandex Pets: 4 – 7
Seal Clubbers: 4 – 7
Bry’s Gamers: 3 – 8

With 8 wins a piece, God’s Tallywacker and Gridiron Warriors have officially clinched playoff berths (thank god too, I was beginning to wonder what the playoffs tasted like!) With the head-to-head victory between the two, Durkee holds the edge for the #1 seed, but both are currently on track for the all-important (or killer?) bye week. Bry’s Gamers, with the loss to yours truly this week, has been officially elimited from postseason contention (and he made sure to call me today and tell me just how crappy his team is – I would apologize, Bryan, but I am not that sorry!)

At 7 – 4, Magnum PI has also clinched a playoff berth. He could still fall to 7 – 6, but holds all tiebreakers over the teams below him. He also still has a shot at one of the bye weeks (although he lost both the matchups to the Warriors and has a big one versus Durkee this week)

Dave’s Blue Steelers are in the next best position to clinch – a win and he is in (he faces the Clan, who sit at 5 – 6)

Then we get down to the 5 – 6 teams. A lot can happen when 3 teams are fighting for 2 spots (and the fact that the 2 teams below them at 4 – 7 still have an outside shot doesn’t help either) Here’s the kicker: because these three teams haven’t played the same number of head-to-head games (Clan and Mob Squad have faced off twice together, and once against Ditka; Ditka has only faced each team once), we move to the second tiebreaker – which is most points scored.

Kep’s Mob Squad: 964.2
Hurricane Ditka: 862.7
The Turducken Clan: 839.4

With a nice 100 point margin, it is unlikely that either team will catch the Squad in points, so they have to hope that either the other one loses – especially since Pete lost to both of them (twice to Kyle).

At 1 – 6, it looked like the Seal Clubbers season would end quickly, but a 3 game win streak helped keep them in the hunt. Now at 4 – 7, tied with the Spandex Pets, they are fighting for their lives. Both teams need to win out, and will need a lot of help above them, in order to have any shot. A loss by either team this week, and they will be officially eliminated.

Game of the Week: Blue Steelers (6 – 5) v. The Turducken Clan (5 – 6)

The Steelers need a win to get in. The Clan needs to win to stay alive. Both of these teams have very strong teams and this matchup is the one with the most playoff implications.

Upset of the Week: Seal Clubbers over Kep’s Mob Squad

I know, I know – I will hear it from Pete for this, but the Clubbers are still a very dangerous team, and the Squad could be hurting if Warner is not in. I don’t think the Clubbers will get the right pieces to fall to make the playoffs, but they will hurt the Squad’s chances this week. Plus – according to Danno, he has the “magic touch” with this Upset of the Week business, and he wanted to pick HIMSELF over ME! I couldn’t have any of that

As you can see, things will get a little clearer this week, but it will still come down to that final week to determine once and for all who will be going for it all. And another little tidbit pointed out by Danno: with the way the matchups are this week, there is the potential for a five-way tie if things fall correctly. How crazy would THAT be going into the last week? We’ve seen some craziness this year…I wouldn’t be surprised!

Thanks for reading guys – and have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

As if this years BFFL season could take any more twists and turns, week 10 decides to rear its ugly head. I will use the word ugly loosely as we take a look into the standings, as perhaps one man’s ugly is another’s excitement. Still, no team is safe from elimination quite yet, as not a single team has clinched a playoff berth officially, and with only three weeks left in the regular season, it may come down to coin flips. The Wackers have regained their spot at the top seed as Wackers and Warriors seem to have a week by week agreement on who gets to be on top. The heavily favored Steelers and their five game winning streak was finally taken down by none other than the new highest win streak team, The Clubbers (W3). Teams like the Clubbers, Canes, and MLSP all rise up and get their 4th wins, and teams like PI, Steelers, and Mob Squad take 1 game pitfalls. A masterful and eye raising trade shakes the foundation of the league, and more injuries than you can throw a bucket at. All this, in JUST week 10. Oh, how the BFFL likes to create a false sense of comfort, just to throw you to the wolves. This just in, Bill Belichick will be punting on all third downs now, just to be safe.

Gridiron Warriors def. Magnum PI 87.6 – 86.5

It was the GOTY for a reason and it really did take almost all week as the match up had games spanning from Thursday to Monday. Although Roethlisberger decided to make things really interesting with only 3.6 points for the Warriors, thee rest of Belonger’s team stepped forward and prevailed. Frank Gore, Ray Rice, Reggie Wayne, and TJ Houshmandzadeh all broke double digits helping give that extra boost that they needed. Ray Rice would give the Warriors the definitive lead during the MNF contest also appearing was Todd Heap for a brief 2.8 points. The Warriors will earn there right to stay in first for another week, and face last place Gamer’s coming up this week for another potential win.

PI’s first game without Ronnie Brown would go down as the loss, but not without lacking effort. Peyton Manning would take full advantage of Bilichick and his sub par cerebral-ness and put up 32.6 on SNF. Joseph Addai would also add to the Bilichick embarrassment throwing in his own 15.4 points. Now usually if the Sunday night players have an almost 40 point night, the rest can come a little easier, but with Ray Rice and Todd Heap playing on and eventually overcoming Christenson on Monday Night, there was nothing you could do but watch the downfall. No other starter would put up double digits for Magnum as the next highest was Ricky Williams. Leave it to the BFFL gods to string PI up against his former teammate Ronnie Brown already this coming week. (If he plays).

Seal Clubbers def. Blue Steelers 117 – 68.9

Steven Jackson doing his best to keep the Steelers afloat

Another upset correct, and another theory laid to rest, Chris Johnson does well = Seal Clubbers win. Chris Johnson lead the Clubbers to third straight victory, thus taking out the previous streak leader, The Blue Steel. Johnson would just rake in fantasy points, knowing that his team is in dire need of them having himself a 31.3 day. If that wasn’t enough, five other Seal Clubber starters would also break double digit numbers. Brandon Marshall and Philip Rivers numbers would only come secondary to Johnsons, as they hauled in 18.9 and 22.5, respectively. Former Cane J-Stew is finding his stride in late as well and had 16 points, and the Vikings D and David Akers also brought in 10 and 11. With Chris Johnson up against Houston this week lets face it, it’s not a good time to be playing the Clubbers… oh crap.

For the Steelers, it was only a matter of time for the hot streak to come to an end, lets just hope it doesn’t stay cold and ruin any playoff chances. The pair of running backs led the way for the Steelers as Steven Jackson and A-Pete put on shows. (19.3 and 18.4). With hardly any other supporting cast help, the tables had definitely turned to who’s team was hot. Miami kicker Dan Carpenter was the only other member to break double digits on the team with 14 points. The Blue Steelers aren’t close to being out of the woods yet either. With the final three games, come three very tough adversaries. This week the first place Wackers (7-3), next week a very very hungry Turducken Clan (4-6), and closing out the regular season with the Warriors (7-3).

MLSP def. Kep’s Mob Squad 87.5 – 83.8

The titans of talk squared up and not only was it an exciting game, a smack board the length of the Bible came along for the ride. Although MLSP prevailed victorious it was close through and through. Led by a pair of players circa 2004, Donovan McNabb and LaDainian Tomlinson brought in 26.5 and 16.5 points. Two other double digits in the Cardinals D and Jay Feely also helped out the Pets. (10 and 11). Ronnie Brown’s debut for MLSP was less than spectacular and already we must hold our collective breath to see how extensive his injury will be. At least it wasn’t a break. MLSP will go up against former teammate Chad Ochocinco this coming week as they play the 6-4 PI’s in a must win battle.

Too bad with every match there has to be a loser, because this was one game the Squad could have really used a W in. Kep’s Mob Squad sitting at the 5-5 mark are smack dab in ground zero of the playoff battle. Kurt Warner now having back to back good weeks brought in 25.2 points, and Fitz and Stephen Gostkowski also had 10.9 and 10 points. This of course brings me to MJD. I’m sure Pete cringed by the smart play of Jones-Drew along with the millions of other MJD owners. Had that run gone for a TD, we could talk more about how MLSP is all but licked, and the Mob Squad could potentially be on the rise. Jones-Drew would go on to apologize to all his owners in a press conference, but an apology is not a win… and the 3-first round picks Mob Squad, drops to 5-5.

God’s Tallywacker def. The Turducken Clan 95.7 – 58.9

Ryan needs to start playing like it was 2008.

What looked like a potential disaster up until about 5:00, turned out to be one of the larger margin of victories in the BFFL. Randy Moss had yet to play, A-Rod was looking into the eyes of the Cowboys and Beanie Wells was still TD-less. This of course all changed as A-Rod and Beanie Wells had 17.9, and Randy Moss embarrassed the Colts patchy secondary with 25.3 points. A-Rod and Randy Moss are expected to play like this every week, but the large concern comes from the supporting cast. Can Beanie Wells do that every week? Can any other RB put up over 5 points? Who will replace the now 4-game suspended Dwayne Bowe? The Packers D will be back in the line up soon and hopefully Derrick Mason and Steve Slaton/Ryan Moats can help carry the load. This team should be as far away as panic as possible, as they sit in 1st. But this just feels like a very deceiving win. Great collision coming up this week as the Wackers play the 6-4 Steelers.

Falling apart at the seams would be an understatement. The Clan has now lost 3 straight since beating older brother Andy in the Bologna bowl. To make matters worse, stud RB Cedric Benson also went down with an injury. There were two players to break double digits and that was Sidney Rice and the Saints D with 14.4 and 10 points. Brent Celek also gets an honorable mention with 9.2. Granted, Andre Johnson was on a bye this week, and things could have been much closer, but this one was lopsided. The large concern I see if the Clan has any hopes to turn things around is at QB. Matt Ryan is simply not getting the job done and hasn’t even gone over 15 points since week 5. It’s too bad the trade deadline is up, because much of the top QB talent is sitting on other owners benches. The chance to turn things around could be this week though, as Kyle will face the Mob Squad.

Hurricane Ditka def. Bry’s Gamers 90.5 – 52.6

Word of the day here is ‘ouch’, not only for the Gamers but also due to a Michael Turner injury. Now granted it looked a lot worse on TV but either way, the high ankle sprain has the potential to downfall any playoff hopes the Canes may have had. Much like MLSP, the Canes now face the team they traded to, with the player they received potentially not even playing due to injury. Crisis was averted though thanks to the help of Drew Brees’ 14.6 points, Reggie Bush’s 16.9 points and Baltimore’s 24 points. Kellen Winslow is also making an adequate replacement for Owen Daniels with 9.4 points, though Daniels could never be fully replaced this season. It might be a do or die week for the Canes as they face the red hot Seal Clubbers. Dropping to a 7th loss in this tight of competition could be fatal.

Speaking of 7 losses… (had to do it) what a rough game for the Gamers. Minus a valiant effort by Tom Brady with 30.1 points, the roster had an extremely sad day. No other player on the starting line up would score over 5 points, that includes the power house weapons of the Eagles D, whom which I was prepared to dig a 36 point deficit from once again. Really, if all the 4-6 teams are in do or die mode, this goes triple for the Gamer’s. Looking none to good, the Gamers will face the first place Warriors this coming week.

Game of the week:
God’s Wackers vs. Blue Steelers
Although im giving them the game of the week, I am giving a very notable mention to watch all the 4-6 teams play. These are the all or none teams right now and although Durkee vs. Pleuss is a 7-3 vs. 6-4, so much more is at stake for the 4-6 scrappers.

Upset of the week:
Clan over the Mob Squad
Simply for this fact… The Clan is due.

As if any more excitement could happen in the league, this happens… Not one, not two, not three, but FOUR teams are tied for first place right now. Yes, FOUR! This has never happened this late into the season. Add another twi

st to it… four teams are tied for last place. Not as exciting I know, but still an amazing feat? Maybe, heh. So with only four weeks left in the regular season, things still could go any which way. A last place team could jump up to first, a first place team takes the dive to last, anything can happen.

Now onto a more serious note. As you all know, the articles are my little way to spice up the league. I enjoy writing them, people enjoy reading them and the world is happy. Articles don’t take nearly as much time out of my schedule either as a podcast does… This season I tried taking them to the next level with the podcasts, but unfortunately this was a failed attempt just due to the lack of man power and time consumption. I even purchased and created my own website to help support podcasts and such since ESPN would not allot them. I don’t know what’s in the air this year but for some reason people think that this is the New York Times here, and there is an article deadline… and I’m taking heat from it. But a recent comment put me over the top when it was a mild attack on the website I purchased as well.

Warner was vintage for the Squad

So, starting next season, I’m going to do something a little different… get ready because it’s going to be big… No more articles! Ever! Yup, after this season I’m done. They really are enjoyable to write when it’s not like a work type environment, but it’s gotten to be like that more and more. I don’t care if you criticize the articles themselves, in fact I encourage it. I love to see people battle back and forth on the comment board, or add in there two cents with stats I may have missed. But when you push me for something that I’m just trying to do for fun and not getting paid for, come on. Now, I’m guessing I will miss writing a few times next season so I will probably cave and write at my own leisure, but as for the BFFL weekly report, the Year End Report will be my last. Enough depressing talk though, lets get to this weeks Report!

Keps Mob Squad def. Gridiron Warriors 133.4 – 87.5

Well the Mob Squad must of took my word to heart, countering them into a grand performance versus the Warriors. Either that, or the Warriors finally heeded to my calls of discontent. Kurt Warner had the best game of his in literally a decade, throwing up 5 TD’s and nabbing 37.8 points. A performance like this hasn’t been seen from him since his “second coming” during his St. Loius Rams day’s. Larry Fitzgerald… obviously benefited from Warner’s stellar performance as well having 22.8 points during his 9 reception, 123 yard, 2 TD day. Including those two performances, there was six players total to break double digits. MJD, Julius Jones would anchor the RB core with 12.6 and 12.2 points. Hines Ward would also have 15.4 points and Stephen Gostkowski brought in 14 points. It was a rare, near-perfect day for the Squad. In fact the only damper was Roddy White with a surprising 1.6 points.

Ok, in all honesty, the Warriors did play a good game, and the score they sported this past week would’ve beaten 7 other teams out there, but you know as well as I do, match ups can make or break a week. The Warriors would have 5 players break into the double digits, and although none broke the 20 point tier, five double digit players is nothing to frown on. Tony Romo led the way with 16 points, followed by Frank Gore and the Falcons D with 14.9 and 15. Ray Rice also brought in 13.6 and Steve Smith had 10.1. Surprisingly one of the best WR’s this year (Reggie Wayne) had the second lowest amount of points with 2.6. Both teams made the right calls though leaving minimal points on the bench. As much as I dislike both of these teams… I can’t say a damn thing about them this week. Near perfect football was played with the exception of Roddy White and Reggie Wayne, this makes for a nearly perfect GOTY.

Magnum PI def. The Turducken Clan 122.4 – 86.7

DeAngelo is runnin wild for PI

Much like his older brother, the Clan’s score would’ve beaten 6 other teams, just rotten match up luck to be playing the second highest scorer in the league. Much like the Mob Squad, PI also had six double digit players. DeAngelo Williams led the charge with an impressive 20.9 point game. Williams has had four games in a row breaking double digits, and showing his worth of being a first rounder. Manning, the Steelers D, and Olindo Mare would also bring up excellent scores of 16.3, 19, and 14. Not an overall vintage day for Manning but with help from PI’s supporting cast all around, 16.3 would be good enough. PI is still playing championship caliber ball but be prepared to see a new face on this team in the coming weeks…

Alright, I really hope I wasn’t the bad omen by forgetting to install the Clan in the playoff prediction, but since that article, the Clan has yet to win. Although four players broke the double digit mark, a QB with under 10 points hurt the Clan very much. Ryan only had 7.9 points on the day while his high scorer would be WR Sims-Walker with 17.2 points. The Saints D further impressed with 16 points and Benson and Andre Johnson would round out the double digits, with 14.5 and 10. Not much to be said here, the appropriate starts were made, just winning hasn’t been something we’ve seen from the Clan now for two weeks in a row. For the record though Kyle, this is still a playoff team.

Blue Steelers def. Hurricane Ditka 85.7 – 83.6

We’ll call this the dark ages for my fantasy teams this week. 0-3. Not a win in all three leagues. Watching two go under on Monday night as both opponents had Denver and Pittsburgh D’s…. sigh. If there was any week to take out the red hot Steelers, it was this week, with Jackson and A-Pete having the bye and Schaub losing Owen Daniels. But thanks to a foolish bench move of Rashard Mendenhall, the Steelers would have my number. Five players for the Blue Steel would go in double digits, helping counter any low points that may have came from Hightower, Roy Williams and Deven Hester. V-Jax led the team with 15.5 and Schaub in a close 2nd with 15.3. Ryan Grant, Vernon Davis and the Broncos D would also put up 10.5, 10 and 12 points. The Steelers are hands down the best team in the BFFL, for right now. Five game winning streak, and also proving capable of the W with his bench players.

If not for the fact that 3 other people held the same record as myself, this would in fact be, utter panic mode time. The curse of the 6 has come upon me, and with only 4 games left, perfection with a dash of luck by my side, is near mandatory. Yes I watched my lead slowly dwindle down and finally plummet once MNF came around but with Mendenhall’s 10 points laying on the pine rather than in the line-up, it hurts a little more. Only 3 players broke double digits, Drew Brees, Michael Turner, and Neil Rackers (14.9, 23.9 and 12). Although Turner has brought a vast improvement to the running game, a team still needs help from its supporting cast members, which he did not. There are playoff spots still out there and one of these 3-6 teams will get one… but which one.

God’s Tallywackers def. MLSP 55.4 – 47

I don’t know what was uglier, the Packer game or this match up. The Wackers helped aid in MLSP to get to the curse of the 6 and although Durkee’s team didn’t play much better… “a win is a win”. A-Rod did manage to throw 20.8 points on the board dispite having one of the worse games of his career and losing to the lowly Bucs. Randy Moss would also bring in 19.2 points but after that… scoring got ugly. The next highest points on the team would be from new starting RB Ryan Moats with 6.6 points. After that a combined 5 players would total a score 5.8 points. Greg Olsen did amass 22.5 points, but unfortunately they were left on the bench, choosing Heath Miller over Olsen. None-the-less, the Wackers move to 6-3 and join the four-way tie for first.

MLSP, it’s time to go to code red. Although, strength of schedule isn’t horrid, two of the last four games are vs. the Blue Steelers and the Mob Squad. As much as it pains me to say this, if the Mob Squad plays like they have the past 2 weeks, they could cause a ripple in the playoff race. MLSP was led by the Seahawks D, with 20 points. No other double digits were on the starting roster. McNabb and Cutler seem to be conspiring with eachother to screw over MLSP as now the newly started McNabb only put up 8.6 points to Cutlers 30.3. A donut by a now injured Clinton Portis also led to the demise, although even a good game out of Portis may not have helped much. Much like the rest of the 36ers, MLSP is circling the drain, not out yet, but not looking good.

The Seal Clubbers def. Bry’s Gamers 79.8 – 74.4

Johnson is helping the Clubbers get back on track

He’s not dead yet folks and the last place team is… well still the last place team, BUT along with three other teams. More importantly, the once 1-6 Clubbers are now back in the playoff race and only one game out. Despite the 3-6 record they must be looking at the glass half full in Clubberland. Now, onto the bad news… two of the next four games are vs. the Blue Steelers (6-3) and Magnum PI (6-3). To presumably make the playoffs in this league you probably have to beat at least one of those two, along with winning vs. the Canes and the Mob Squad. Philip Rivers and Chris Johnson led the way with 20.5 and 23.1 points. Brandon Marshall and David Akers would also get into double digits with 10.7 and 14 points. Here’s the formula to make the playoffs… Chris Johnson rocks it, Seal Clubbers are a threat. It’s just to bad this doesn’t happen more often than not.

It’s heartbreaking to watch that lead go away… I can’t imagine its any better when you watch it being stolen from you by the last place team. The Clubbers were that team. Forte has looked like a bigger bust then the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders combined bra size, and Pierre Thomas is seeing carries continually swooped in and taken by Bell and Bush. Brady would have an 18.9 point game and Driver and Carney putting up 10.3 and 13 points respectively. Although Pierre did have an 11 point game, the numbers could be so much more if not for Bush and Bell. I’m disappointed to see no one ever tried for a trade or vice versa with Joe Flacco. His middle name was trade bait this year, and could have been utilized to his full extent due to his talent level. That being said, Tom Brady could’ve been the trade bait and putting Flacco in the starting line up. Bry’s Gamers may have the easiest schedule in the final four games of the four last place teams… The largest mogul though will be the top dog Warriors whom he will meet in week 11.

GOTY: Gridiron Warriors vs. Magnum PI

1st place vs. 1st place. Both teams are 6-3 and this could have major sway in who gets the number 1 seed.

Upset of the Week: The Seal Clubbers over Blue Steelers

I could honestly see it. The Clubbers have a sparatic team but with Chris Johnson facing the worst rushing D in the NFL, I think the theory could come into play… when Chris Johnson succeeds, so do the Clubbers.

Well I guess I can’t complain that I get such rave reviews over the reports but man, I sure do take the heat now when they’re late! After hearing Coach McCarthy apologize to everyone multiple times, I realized something… Apologies are hip and in. That being said, I’m sorry. I’m sorry I let you down once again, I’m sorry that I keep putting articles off and I owe it to all of my fans to do better. Hell, with an apology like that, I could be a coach… speaking of which, when is it time to start calling for McCarthy’s head? I’ve heard some whispers before, but ever since the Minnesota Round 2 loss, those whispers I’ve been hearing have turned into dull roars. I personally don’t think it’s time to can McCarthy… yet. He does have some serious discipline issues to work out, and needs to take a chapter out of Bill Walsh or Bill Parcells book. But I don’t think it’s time for a new coach yet… do you? WHOA! I thought this was a BFFL weekly report! Not the Packers Letdown Network! Lets get started…

Blue Steelers def. Kep’s Mob Squad 81.3 – 72.3

MJD doin work for The Mob Squad

Although this was my GOTY pick, it just seemed to lack the excitement This was one of the five games that came down to the Monday nighter, but Koeppen’s two Monday nighters consisted of Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez. A solid effort by Roddy White with 14.8 points was not enough to help the Squad get the win as Tony Gonzalez would only bring in 5.2 points, and the deficit would remain at 11 points. Koeppen did win the keeper vs. keeper battle as MJD had a 23.7 day as compared to A-Pete, with 12.7. Outside of MJD and White, the Mob Squad had no other player break double digits, which definitely hurts, especially when one of those players is his QB. Is it time for the Squad to shop Warner? Also, a big donut from kicker Jason Hanson never helps. It’s time to ditch Hanson, in ANY league… seeing how the last time he even had a single point, was back in week 5. Although the Squad is still in the mix at 4-4 they now face the 1st place Warriors and could see a potential 3-loss streak fall upon them.

Dave did play a smart game with very little benching remorse he usually may feel, and the only high points that may have been better in the starting line up was an 11.6 point day out of Tim Hightower. Four players would break the double digit mark, but much like the Mob Squad, the QB was not one of those who partook. Schaub only having a 5.8 day would like to take this one back, and it will be very interesting to see how Schaubs numbers play out now a recovering Andre Johnson, and no more Owen Daniels (out for season torn ACL). Did Kevin Walter just become this season’s hottest pick up? Vernon Davis continues to show he’s not a flop having a 7.6 point day, which for him is a little lower but nothing to shy away from, and Steven Jackson also showing that he doesn’t suck regardless of how bad his team is, having a 17.1 point day.

Seal Clubbers def. The Turducken Clan 73 – 51.1

Another upset of the week successfully called, if I keep this up I might have to start taking my team down for Upset of the Week every week to help push up my standings. Chris Johnson FINALLY had another double digit week, only his second since his 36.3 point destruction back in week 2. Johnson would rack up 228 rushing yards and hit paydirt twice on Sunday, making him the Clubbers point leader at 26.9. The Clubbers also had double digit days from Rivers and Jennings with 11.2 and 11.6 points. David Akers would also pick up a solid 9 points while the Eagles gave the Giants a new butthole. The risky Lions D pickup that happened last second also paid off (kind of), as by not giving him negative points, which I was extremely worried about. Hey, they even got a safety! Not many defenses can say that week to week. J-Stew should’ve been on the starting roster replacing Mike Bell, as the newly acquired Stewart had a 2 TD day and brought in 16 points. Expect him in the starting line up next week, especially if Mike Bell is being phased out by Reggie Bush. The Clubbers although may be in last, aren’t dead yet.

The Clan on the other hand just had an off day. This is a solid team (although I hope I didn’t curse them by accidently ruling them out in the playoff prediction) and they should bounce back. If not for the Saints defense, the Clan would not have a double digit performer… anywhere, including the bench. Sims-Walker almost methodically has a good outing every other game, so at least this coming week, he should do well. Ryan showed he’s still a young QB, although still above most of the grade of QB’s his age, there’s gonna be bad outings. Big names like Boldin and Andre Johnson are day to day and Benson on a bye… forcing the Clan to use players like Burleson and Jamal Lewis. I question some players on the team, such as Shaun Hill, Jacoby Jones, and Jamal Lewis, but as long as they just sit the bench, I guess they aren’t hurting anything but depth, which now that there’s only 1 week of byes left, may not be as substantial as it could be. That being said though… the team is getting banged up.

Gridiron Warriors def. MLSP 83.6 – 67.1

Donovan McNabb is ready to step up for MLSP

Order has been restored, Gridiron Warriors are back in first place yadda, yadda, yadda. Why is it I’m still not completely sold on the Warriors? Is it just me? I apologize Andy, but for some reason I just don’t see a perfectly rounded, championship caliber team. That being said… you are one of the Upsets of the week I haven’t nailed yet, and Wayne, Romo, and Gore are playing like animals. You’ve also made supporting cast improvements like Heap instead of Fasano, which by the way, why the hell is he still eating up roster space. So as of right now, I’m the idiot, and I am eating my own words. The Warriors played very good football this week and had double digit performances out of Romo, Gore, and Wayne (24.2, 13.5 and 18.4). Anyone who was ever worried that Romo would have no one to throw to, can be at ease, now that he has had a third straight week of 20 or more points. Gore seems fully healed and had no problem scampering for 91 yards and hit the endzone once. Reggie Wayne… just scary, and I doubt we’ll see any Reggie Wayne trade that I may have hinted on in past weeks.

MLSP had a great comeback effort, especially after watching Belonger’s entire starting line up done for the day after the noon games, but it just wasn’t enough. Cutler once again had a lackluster day at QB and only brought home 6.1 points. It’s time to start McNabb. Had he started this week, MLSP would have won 84.9 – 83.6. He has shown patience and accuracy I have never seen from him before and very powerful weapons at his disposal. Also his ribs seem to be fully healed and not giving him any problems during the game. I’m just sad it took him a decade to learn control and find his swagger. At the pace McNabb is at now, Donovan is on set to have a 20+ TD season. LT also showed just because he’s over 30 now doesn’t mean he doesn’t have some fight left in him, the number one draft pick took in 14.5 points. McCoy, Colston, and T.O. yes.. T.M.F.O. also had good numbers with 10.9, 11.2, and 9.5. MLSP is so close to getting over that hump, there’s just one or two keys missing. Sources tell me that there is a very, very large trade in the works with this team and another, but only time will tell whether or not something gets worked out before the deadline.

Bry’s Gamers def. God’s Tallywackers 75.2 – 72.2

A-Rod proving his worth for the Wackers

Like I said in the league posts… going into MNF, one of the five teams losing will come out ahead after the MNF game, and it happened here. All five losing teams had at least two players on the going into Monday night which is huge, and a rarity that it happened to every losing team. But the Gamer’s would bring Pierre Thomas and John Carney into Monday and those two would help Bryan take the now 2nd place Wackers down. It almost didn’t happen until late in the 4th quarter when a turnover gave the Saints the ball once more, and at the 1 yard line Pierre Thomas would soon get his TD. Carney would solidify the lead and make sure there would be no chance of a loss due to a late fumble and with his 4 points, the game would for sure be out of reach. Gamers had 4 players total rack up double digits with Forte leading the charge. Now, Forte has been a bigger bust than a Hooters luncheon, but with the Bears playing the Browns, if he DIDN’T break over 10 points, it would be time to beat him over the side of the head with a hammer. Pierre Thomas had 91 yards and a TD for 14.9 points and Joe Flacco had a lull of a day, but still broke double digits with 11.1 points, and finally the Eagles D would round it out with 10 points.

It was going to be an uphill climb for The Tallywackers anyway due to a big bye week for him, but A-Rod did what he could in Favre Bowl II. 28.9 points and overall having a solid fantasy week, was soured by the embarrassment, that is a Vikings win. Newly acquired Beanie wells was not the center of attention in Arizona and Hightower would take all but 2 points away from Wells. DeSean Jackson, Derrick Mason, and the Chargers D would be the only other stables on the Wackers team, although Jackson, would be the only other member to break double digits (10.1). No time to worry yet, as the Wackers drop to 5-3, but there may be some concern for Dwayne Bowe as the Chiefs just picked up Chris Chambers. Could this dig into the star WR’s attention? We’ll find out.

Magnum PI def. Hurricane Ditka 89.3 – 73.1

It’s no secret that I’m in love with Christensen’s team. I say it almost every report that I feel it is the strongest team in the league. I have been called Jon Gruden, PI’s team being Brett Favre. Yea, its that bad. I knew going into this match-up I was in for an uphill battle, but PI dangled a potential lead for me all Monday night. Before we go into that I will say I HATE losing due to a defense, and although I won’t take anything away from PI’s team… the Bears D did put up 26 points. Manning would have a seasons rare off day as he only threw for 13.2 points. This normally isn’t horrible but the guy is averaging 24 points/game so I took it as giving me a lay up. DeAngelo Williams would also break double digits with 10.5 and breakout WR Miles Austin, the same. So even though I was going into the MNF game down 50 points… I felt some hope. Ahh, to be so naive. Only 3 players of mine would break double digits, although not bad… wouldn’t be enough to get over that hump. Drew Brees would end up with 20 points, Michael Turner with 16.5 and a Ravens D with 15. Reggie Bush was a gamble at RB and although he did get a TD, only brought in 6.9 points. I do think I might keep him in the starting line-up though… Possibly the hardest thing to swallow this week for me though was losing Owen Daniels for the season. I am heartbroken, not only because he was the number 1 TE in the league, but because he was the kid outta UW doing so. It still pains me, and I now know how all Tom Brady owners felt last season… and I only lost a tight end.

So now, I apologize (I told you apologies are in) for this being such a long report, but I know you Biffle heads (that’s what I am now calling BFFLers) will enjoy it.

GOTY: Gridiron Warriors vs. Mob Squad

Sorry Natey, I know you have yet to get a GOTY but I don’t think it’s gonna be this week. The Warriors on top of the league vs. the man with the draft picks. Plus, these two are talkers. Expect to see a full and active smack board with these two, before the games even start.

Upset of the Week: MLSP vs. God’s Tallywacker

…but I will give Natey Upset pick. This will be a tight game, but I think if LT can play the way he did this past week, and if MLSP puts McNabb in the starting line up, it will be Weyenberg’s to lose.

Another BFFL week in the books and my predictions from the last week, couldn’t have been more spot on. Game of the week gave what it promised as we watched Belonger Bowl IV, scratch that… Bologna Bowl I come down to the wire as younger Belonger Kyle took the newly coveted “Bologna Slice”. Upset of the week went to Hurricane Ditka as they destroyed the Mob Squad after a week of hype and smack.

Although I forgot about it, Natey would also later bring to my attention that it was Champion vs. Champion in the MLSP vs. Blue Steelers matchup, and the Blue Steelers would prove they are a champs champ, taking in the high score of the week, and the win. Magnum PI goes on to improve to 4-3 . A new leader is atop of the BFFL ranks as the Warriors loss combined with the Wackers win, would push Durkee to the top for at least a week. As per some requests, we will not have the weekly report this week, even with all the action that did take place. Instead, you get the BFFL Midseason special report! So lets dive right in.

Power Rankings: (Last Power rankings in parenthesis)

1) (4) God’s Tallywackers 5-2 – Not only are they in first, they have beaten the top 4 teams in the BFFL for 5 of their wins. (Warriors 2nd, Clan 3rd, Steelers 4th, Mob Squad 5th ) Probably should be 6-1 too and beat the next best team (PI 6th) but the costly start of Bowe when he was notably reported injured way ahead of time still bites him in the behind. None-the-less, they are in 1st and have proven they can take out the best of the best… now, he is the best.

2) (1) Gridiron Warriors 5-2 - Miscues and a bye week from hell, the Warriors had to drop to 2nd. They still do lead the league in average points (85/game), so that has something to say. The bye weeks for the majority are over for the Warriors, and a favorable schedule for the next few weeks, the Warriors could be right back up to number one by the time the 3rd quarter review comes out.

3) (5) Blue Steelers 4-3 – The Steelers are moving up faster than The Jefferson’s. Since my 1st quarter review, the Steelers have yet to lose. (*knocks on wood for Dave). Not only are they winning they are doing it with big numbers, as the Blue Steel pulled off the BFFL’s first back to back 100+ point games this season. They are also averaging 84.7 points/game, which is second best in the league.

4) (2) Turducken Clan 4-3 – The Clan did just come off a major win vs. the top notch Gridiron Warriors, but it could have very easily went to the Warriors, if not for a foolish benching of Tony Romo, a pick for 6 by the Saints D at the end, or even a few more catches from Steve Smith. Had that happened the Clan would have been in trouble dropping it’s 3rd straight game, but as the commish says, “A win is a win”. I’ll take it; the more important thing that everyone will have to keep an eye on now is the stability and health of Andre Johnson after the chest contusion.

5) (3) Magnum PI 4-3 – How good is Christensen’s team? In an optimal line up as of right now, the lowest PRK is 12(Pittsburgh D). My views from Q1 remain the same into the midseason report. PI will be in the championship.

6) (6) Kep’s Mob Squad 4-3 – For a team with 3 first round picks, this is a perfect example that an amazing draft doesn’t make for a championship team. As much steam as Koeppen has been blowing about kicking everyone’s asses the second you glance at him wrong, the entire league is realizing that it’s a team with a TON of bark and no bite. Mob Squad doesn’t have to worry quite yet, but with the next two weeks he faces some of the league’s tougher opponents The Blue Steelers (4-3) and the Gridiron Warriors (5-2), watch out, things could turn ugly fairly quickly.

7) (9) MLSP 3-4 – I know, I can’t believe I didn’t put myself ahead of MLSP either! I am on a 3 game win streak and things are looking goooood. But, keep in mind before this loss, MLSP was a 3W streak team as well and with a higher point average than myself (78.3 vs. my 73.5) I couldn’t place myself ahead of Natey. It’s no secret, that Portis is attempted to be shopped, but with a Redskin’s bye this week and the Skin’s having a less than par season, I can’t see him leaving the Pets. Not to worry for MLSP fans though, Jacobs, Bradshaw, and LT make up for him and keep a team that prides itself on RB’s, still no pushover.

8) (10) Hurricane Ditka 3-4 – I still suck, just not quite as much. As I said before, I am on a 3 game winning streak, which is fantastic. Drew Brees is putting up stellar numbers once again, and newly acquired Michael Turner is a perfect leader for a very horrible RB core. Although Turner isn’t going to be the savior and his numbers won’t come close to last years, it is nice to see a back on the team that can score over 5 points a game. Problem for the Canes though, they still average the lowest amount of points in the league (73.5) and the upcoming schedule is tough. Could the face lift been for nothing?

9) (7) Bry’s Gamers 2-5 – Poor Gamers. The team can’t even win when Tom Brady throws for 6 TD’s in one game. Donald Driver is trying to do his part to, playing like he’s 24 and not his actual age of 78. The Eagles D is this years sleeper D that destroys. Yet, the Gamers have lost 4 straight. If the RB core can ever come out of it’s funk, this team will still have a chance. Maybe it’s time we see Forte get shopped for some new talent. You can only wait so long before its called the sophomore slump.

10) (8) Seal Clubbers 1-6 – The Clubber’s have all but thrown in the towel and looked on to next season. Keeper Michael Turner has been shopped, draft picks and strategy have been coming in. I still believe there is some fight left in this team. Rivers is still having a great year, Witten is still a top TE, Marshall is proving his worth to everyone. Give Slip one more win before the trade deadline, and I could see a ray of hope come back into this team. Remember, this team still could go 7-6.

Marshall creating a stir for the Clubbers

Midseason Playoff Prediction:

1) Blue Steelers

2) Gridiron Warriors

3) Magnum PI

4) God’s Tallywackers

5) MLSP

6) Kep’s Mob Squad

Quarterfinals:

4) God’s Tallywackers over 5) MLSP

3) Magnum PI over 6) Kep’s Mob Squad

Semi-Finals:

1) Blue Steelers over 4) God’s Tally Wackers

3) Magnum PI over 2) Gridiron Warriors

Championship:

1) Blue Steelers over Magnum PI

Midseason Awards:

Best Manager: Kyle Belonger – Is this the same guy that had the now infamous Neil Rackers draft? Solid starts every week, and great waiver wire additions including Sims-Walker, the Saints D, and Sidney Rice. Beating his brother in the Bologna Bowl for a 4th straight time also helps.

Most Team Spirit: Dave Pleuss – Dave may be secretly in love with Steven Jackson and Carson Palmer… oh wait, its no secret. The difference this season is that both are rewarding Pleuss with high points this season for sticking with them through the good and bad times.

Injury Bug: No one. Although everyone has seem to have had their equal share of probable’s, questionables and doubtuls, no one really has had the swine flu of injury yet. It will happen, it just hasn’t happened yet, which is impressive.

Best Free Agent Pick Up: Steve Smith (NYG) Gridiron Warriors – Picked up back in September, this was a brilliant pick up and immediately improved the WR core for the Warriors. An automatic starter every week as well, this isn’t an FA that just sits the bench.

Best Value Draft Pick: Ray Rice – Gridiron Warriors. Everyone assumed he would be the sleeper, and yet everyone held off on him until it was too late. The Warriors make us all pay as Rice is a top 5 back this year.

Smack Talk Award: Peter Koeppen. No surprise.

GOTW:

Blue Steelers vs. Keps MOB Squad

A-Pete and MJD meet for the first time since the monumental trade went down that sent each one to opposite teams. Both teams are 4-3 and although they seem worlds apart, they really are technically both tied for 3rd place.

Upset of the week:

Seal Clubbers over The Turducken Clan

Before I write this weeks article… I am going to take a minute and bask in my victory vs. Pete. I know I gave GOTW to the Gridiron Warriors and the Turducken Clan (and rightfully so, as it came down to the wire), but to anyone that was paying attention to my match up vs. Peter, you would have noticed a bit more smack being said than normal. I will start this week, by doing

2008 Smack Talk Award Winner

a simple play by play of what poor Peter’s simple brain through throughout the week… I call this little piece, “Acknowledgements”

Tuesday October 20th: Check the scores DJP, if our teams would have been playing all year, you would be 1-5. You really think you have a chance? I’m out for vengance from the last time you picked against my team for the Upset of the week. You’re going down, all the freaking way to chinatown my friend.

The Peter walks into the match up unaware that despite his math, we do not play all year, none-the-less, The Peter then displays it’s dominance of what could’ve been, as most Peters are dreamers.

Wednesday October 21st: Can’t beat me with the team you got, so you gotta make a trade? You’ll still come up short.

Thursday October 22nd: I could see you being spitefull and making a move specifically directed towards beating me ever since I called you out

Friday October 23rd: Because you went and made a trade for Turner, which I don’t like. I don’t take bets with cheaters. That’s right, because he did it the week he faces me, he did it specifically aimed at beating me. That’s all there is too it.

The Peter realizes that a big trade happened, and it just so happened to involve his opponent this week, thus taking it personal. Outraged by the fact that he was not offered anyone anger clouds judgement, and The Peter hides his hurt feelings by making outrageous accusations and false claims. Now, this does catch my attention and I do get flustered by it, but to show my confidence and poise, I offered a bet to Pete, which originally does not get accepted, until…

Saturday October 24th: I firstly dissaggee with him unloading Brees, until I kick his ass this week.
I secondly would like to say that your comment on DJP’s question on the league message board was right on, time to get under his skin. I thirdly would like to say that I will kick DJP’s ass up and down the field, with or without Turner and, finally, I fourthly would like to say I gladly accept DJP’s bet. As much as it appears, I am not affraid. Hell, I bet him last year when my team wasn’t at it’s greatest. To beat you DJP and get next years fees paid for will make my day.

More clouded judgement. The Peter is a prideful creature but with it comes not the brightest mind. He takes the bet foolishly, thus sealing his own fate. Pete would make one more foolish saying before the games start… one that I hope more people take advantage of, as I so did.

Sunday October 25th: That’s right, I’m taking bets, and I will win them all….

After that sentence the Peter checked the scores and saw that all the smack talk although great in numbers, would not be able to assist a win.

Peter Koeppen: unless O Daniels screws me over. Damn WI TE

The Peter noticed the stellar performace of the WI tight end.

Peter Koeppen: Damn you Micheal Turner.

The Peter then watched the newly acquired Michael Turner also burn him

Peter Koeppen: WTF Drew Brees

The Peter getting very frustrated now as seeing Drew Brees rebound as he normally does and put up more points against him. As the Peter tries to yell into his computer speakers in hopes of giving his team a pep talk, the match up catches the eye of follow BFFL-ers and they proceed to poke at the Peter, as they find it comical.

Jon Durkee: The score is currently 19.4 to 72. Way to show off your genius.
Dave Pleuss: lol yeah looks like danno is in the league for free next year lol
Dave Pleuss: pete with four players left you could break 30 lol
Peter Koeppen: …What a bunch of shit.

These would be the Peters final words as he has yet to speak of this embarressing loss. Since Pete so gladly pointed out to me in the beginning that theoretically if we played every week, I would be 1-5, I thought I would close with this theoretical number too… If you would’ve played every team this week, you would have went 0-9. btw… I’d be 2-5 now, be sure to pay Andy with a cool crisp $20.

see… I can smack talk too and I hope this one piece bumps me over you so I can take the smack talk award away from you too this year.

I will start this week, by doing a simple play by play of what poor Peter’s simple brain through throughout the week…

Tuesday October 20th: Check the scores DJP, if our teams would have been playing all year, you would be 1-5. You really think you have a chance? I’m out for vengance from the last time you picked against my team for the Upset of the week. You’re going down, all the freaking way to chinatown my friend.

The Peter walks into the matchup unaware that despite his math, we do not play all year, none-the-less, The Peter displays it’s dominance of what could’ve been, as most Peters are dreamers.

The Peter realizes that a big trade happened to happen involving his opponent this week, thus taking it personal. Outraged by the fact that he was not offered anyone anger clouds judgement, and The Peter hides his hurt feelings by making outrageous accusations and false claims. Now, this does catch my attention though, but to show my confidence and poise, I offered a bet to Pete, which originally does not get accepted, until…

The Peter takes the bet foolishly, thus sealing his own fate. Pete would make one more foolish saying before the games start… one that I hope more people take advantage of, as I so did.

Sunday October 25th: That’s right, I’m taking bets, and I will win them all….

After that sentence the Peter checked the scores and saw that all the smack talk although great in numbers, would not be able to assist a win.

unless O Daniels screws me over. Damn WI TE

The Peter noticed the stellar performace of the WI tight end.

Damn you Micheal Turner.

The Peter then watched the newly acquired Michael Turner also burn him

WTF Drew Brees

As you know, I took the week off last week, with many complaints to go along with it. Hey, don’t I get a bye week? I’ve been doing this for 3 straight years! Anyway, I’ll make that gripe session short, lots to talk about. A lot has happened since my last regular article. We had 1 undefeated team, 2 winless teams and the middle, well the middle was its usual congested self. Now, a few teams are making an attempt to break out from the middle of the yearly BFFL cluster, our leagues only undefeated fell softly to a potential big contender, and the two winless teams have pole-vaulted with a combined record of 5-1 within the past 3 weeks. I had all but crossed off the ‘Canes, and gave MLSP very little hope as well, but as my 6-game philosophy generally plays true in most leagues (Let me briefly explain… to have a chance to make playoffs, I personally feel 6 is the minimal number of wins you must have.) the playoff scenario now includes all 10 teams. Yes, the bottom half does still have a mountain to climb, but it’s no longer Kilimanjaro. Oh did I also mention… I’M NOT IN LAST ANYMORE!!!

That being said, on to the report.

God’s Tallywackers def. Gridiron Warriors 117.4 to 97.4

I didn’t have a game of the week seeing how I didn’t write an article, but had I written one, I would have given the GOTW to these two. Generally in the BFFL, a 97.4 point game will be substantial enough to put a W in the column, but not this week. Durkee’s Wackers were out for blood and with better match ups than eHarmony, this one could have been a whole lot worse, if not for favorable outings from Big Ben, Thomas Jones, and Ray Rice (23.8, 20.4 and 26 points). Granted, that is nothing to be ashamed of. When three of your players break the 20 point mark, you have a smile on your face. I like the Todd Heap start rather than Fasano and I think he should stick in the starting line up, regardless of the poor performance he had on Sunday. WR were the weak point for the Warriors as not one of them had over 3 points. Again, this could have been a win vs. 5 other BFFL teams, but Andy ran into a beast of a team this week.

Yes, I am calling Durkees team the beast, at least for this week. The match-ups were clearly in favor for many of the Wackers players and it showed the most from A-Rod and Randy Moss. (21.5 and 28.6). Steve Slaton having another great showing with 15.2 and the Packers D with an impressive 21, there was nothing you could do but watch. Durkee saw Belonger’s three 20 point players and rose him another two to break double digits and Bowe to almost get there with a 9.2. Now, give Durkee’s players props this week, but let’s see if the managerial skills can shine within the coming weeks. Rumor has it there could be potential big trade coming down for this team before the deadline. Out of respect for Durkee I won’t divulge in the details, but with the high risk will there be high reward? Or will it be a gamble that just doesn’t payoff. Time will tell.

MOB Squad def. Bry’s Gamers 119.7-102.1

Again, another score that is 9 times out of 10 good enough for a win, but not today. It’s ok Bryan, I know how it feels to have a QB go off and then watch the record day go for nothing but another loss. Then again, it’s your damn Eagles D, that’s the reason my week 1 performance out of Drew Brees went unnoticed, so although I know how you feel, I don’t console you. Brady of course having a BFFL record day with 50.4 points. Schiancoe was the other ray of light on the team with 14.8 and that Eagles D also had 11. Forte has yet to really impress and has the makes to be this year’s bust. Is it time to start shopping Forte perhaps?

On the other end, the Mob Squad dodged a New England bullet. I don’t know how the kid can live in Maine and come out alive after all the cursing at Tom Brady and the Pat’s I’m sure the TV took. The Mob Squad kept composure though and got the win in true fashion, having a very well rounded turnout for all starters. Five players would break double digits and 2 broke 9 points. MJD would lead the team with 28.5 points as the WR combo of Hines Ward and Larry Fitzgerald showed leadership with 18.1 and 16.6 points. Kurt Warner also had 16.1 points and Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez had 9.3. It’s no lie; I may have my hands full when I play the MOB this coming week.

Blue Steelers def. Magnum PI 104.3-73.8

What’d I tell ya, the Steelers have the players to make it happen and their subpar record doesn’t show how good they really are. Of course, they did just beat the team that I also said should be in the BFFL Championship with the largest margin of victory this week…

PI did have very substantial performances out of DeAngelo Williams and Wes Welker with 24.9 and 24.5 points, as well as Ryan Longwell and the Steelers D putting up double digits (16 and 12). That being said, the rest of the team played awful… and that’s being polite. The five lowest points on the starting line up would total up to -2.6 points. Four double digit performances and colonoscopy couldn’t clean up that mess.

Pleuss’ team got it going and made the right moves this week, as the only regret on the bench may have been Tim Hightower with 9.3 points. Matt Schaub would lead the team into victory with a solid 36.7 point day. If not for Brady’s unreal performance, we would all be talking about Schaub and Brees. A-Pete also brought in 11.8 points and the Bronco’s D poured on 19 points. As a Bronco’s nay-sayer before the season started, I can say Josh McDaniels is making me eat my words on a weekly basis. Vincent Jackson and Steven Jackson also will get honorable mentions as they brought in 7.2 and 8.8 points, nothing overwhelming but when all the team pitched in like they did, the outcome was the win.

MLSP def. The Seal Clubbers 69.3-58.4

Could I see the turning of the tides, with MLSP? After an 0-3 start, the Pets have won 3 in a row after beating Jesse. Not the prettiest match up in the world, MLSP did get 2 players to break double digits with Colston leading the charge with 18.6 and Tynes with 10, also contributing was Ochocinco, with a 9 point day. The McNabb start was supposed to be a sure thing, but with Oakland actually playing defense McNabb was only held to 7.8 points and Cutler with 21.5 on the bench, not that it mattered. Could the Ahmed Bradshaw trade payoff now on MLSP’s side of the fence now? As Jacobs numbers continue to lower, Bradshaws have gone up. I feel it wont be long until we see a switch in the line up and see 44 replace 27.

Poor Jesse, I can’t help but feel bad for you, but then again, you’re the reason that I’m not longer in the basement. Yes, the Clubbers are now 1-5 and with only 2 players breaking double digits things didn’t look too good. Rivers and Akers had 12.1 and 10 points and Turner, Chris Johnson only with 8.4 and 9 points. Now, I’ll take a 8 and 9 point performance any day out of my secondary players, but when they are my keepers, that’s never a good thing. Greg Jennings needs some TD’s as well. Not just as a fantasy standpoint but as a Packer fan. As an elite receiver that he is now, a 4.2 day is just not acceptable. I expect to see a big trade out of this team as well before the deadline. There are some big name players on this team with trade value all over them. At 1-5, things could turn really ugly, really fast… remember my rule of 6…

Hurricane Ditka def. The Turducken Clan 92.3-73.3

Holy hell, I’m out of the basement… for now, but damnit I’m going to appreciate every minute I’m not in last. Yes, my team still needs fine tuning, ESPECIALLY at the RB position, (Fun fact, did you know all 5 of my running backs are back ups?) but contributions from everyone else, and one giant donation from Drew Brees would help me become 2-4 rather than 1-5. Brees would have 37.8 points on the day, and Owen Daniels found a friend in Matt Schaub and racked up 16.9 points. Supporting cast members Santonio Holmes, Neil Rackers, and Mario Manningham all brought in 9 points as well. This win was crucial as this coming week I play a all-around strong MOB Squad. The optimist in me says we can win, but needless to say things could get rough and now dropping to 2-5 will be so much more manageable than going 1-6.

Don’t fall through the cracks Kyle, you’re team is full of potential, just many of the cards didn’t fall the way of your benefit on Sunday. Matt Ryan had 13.4 points and point whore Andre Johnson was held to 11.1. Sims-Walker did get double digits, as did Mason Crosby with 10.8 and 15, but the Brees effect was too much in the end and the Cane’s would get a convincing win. The Turducken Clan will get a chance to redeem themselves and get back on track as the much anticipated Belonger Bowl comes up this week.

GOTW: BELONGER BOWL IV. At least, I think it’s IV. Either way, this game always gets the GOTW if it comes up, and this time is no different. Both Belonger’s are coming off of losses (Kyle on a 2 game losing streak) and will want/need to get back on track. The need is a greater for the Clan, as he has been shuffled back into the middle of the pack, but which Belonger will want it more!

Upset of the week: Well of course I got to pick myself over the MOB Squad. Keeper MJD will be on a bye week and Fitz and Warner will be playing a tough NYG team (although they did just get passed all over by Brees and the Saints) I believe the Giants are looking for redemption.

Dear Fantasy Football,

I hate you. If you were an animate object, I would punch you square in the mouth. If you were a 12 year old kid, I would push you off the swing on the playground and steal your lunch money. If you we’re a brand new Camaro, I would slash your tires, break your windows, and steal your radio… but you’re none of these things, and the fact remains… I am 0-4.

Love,

Dan Podell

Owner – Hurricane Ditka

The once all powerful ‘Canes, is no more than a pesky fly most teams just shoo off their radar. Oh how the mighty have fallen. As you can see my latest demoralizing loss has spun me into bit of a angry spiral, but the one thing I can say I do enjoy about being this bottom of the barrel that I had not experienced before… I actually get who I want off of waivers! Welcome to the special edition, 1st quarter Power Rankings

1st:

Gridiron Warriors – Andy Belonger

Apparently, Belonger took my words of criticism and went out and proved me wrong and for the second time this season, Belonger breaks the 100 point mark. Now granted his other two non-hundred point games we’re on the lowest end of the spectrum, but as what’s turning into the Andrew Belonger quote of the season “a win is a win. The Warriors are also showing they have other players on the team to step up when someone else falls (Frank Gore being a perfect example this week). This team isn’t filled with pretty names at all, Ray Rice, Kevin Smith, Thomas Jones, the OTHER Steve Smith… but, a win is a win. The big question now is, it seems as the RB core has started getting hit by the injury bug, and some key moves may be what it comes down to whether or not the Warriors stay up on top or fall down to mediocrity.

For second, third, and fourth, I’m fully prepared to hear criticism from all three teams… I just spent the past hour trying to figure out who should be ahead of whom but it feels like I’m playing a game of paper, scissors, and rock with all three. The Turducken Clan has the highest point average with 85.1 but has lost to the Wackers in week 1. The Wackers could easily be 4-0 BUT starting Bowe when he was announced as injured the day before was careless, and Durkee took the loss. Who did he lose to? MLSP. MLSP lost to the Warriors in week 1 but could easily be 2-2 due to the Dwayne Bowe incident. Whew… so here we go…

2nd:

Turducken Clan

It took long enough but I’m finally announcing Belonger’s Clan as the 2nd best team in the BFFL. The one loss in week 1 to God’s Wackers really puts a damper on otherwise a very impressive first quarter of the season, but since I was just arguing the fact that Durkee could be 4-0, you can’t hold it too much against the Clan for losing. Much like Kyle’s brother, this Belonger doesn’t have that impressive of names on the team, Andre Johnson is obviously the face of the Clanchise, but after that who is the big name? Benson is showing he is for real and I’m happy for him. Sims-Walker has found his way starting over Anquan Boldin. Brent Celek is proving that LJ Smith is just a thing of the past. These aren’t your typical fantasy football names, but dammit, their the reason I’m giving the Clan the number 2 slot.

3rd:

Magnum PI

BFFL Championship caliber team, this most definitely is. Peyton Manning is having an MVP type year. Pennington going down for the season rose Ronnie Brown’s stock up so high the economy just got a little better. Fate would have it that the pick before PI in the draft would go towards Slaton, landing DeAngelo Williams in PI’s lap. Dallas Clark, hands down the number 1 TE in the league. I still believe that they should have lost to the Wackers in week 3, but again, a win is a win. I know this is only a quarterly report, but I fully expect this team to be in the BFFL Championship for the first time in it’s franchises history.

4th:

God’s Tallywackers

Yes, I said this team should be 4-0, but I’m about to trademark the line before Andy can… A win is a win, and win, the Wackers didn’t vs. PI. I’m not going to reward the Wackers for stupidity and unfortunately, that’s the reason I move him down to the number 4 slot. The overall was just too great for me to place the Wackers over PI, and although I personally like Durkee’s team better than Christensens’, the facts remain the same: 1) PI has a higher point average than the Wackers 2) PI beat the Wackers. Another thing that ultimately scares me with Durkee’s team is the lack of depth. With Moss, Slaton, Rodgers, and Bowe in the starting line up, this team is scary… but that being said, we’re already seeing injuries build up around the team (although none too major), and with the big bye weeks coming up for the team, there is a serious issue of lack of depth.

5th:

Blue Steelers

I see eyebrows raising, especially from the two teams that have a better record than those 1-3 teams, but I see the Steelers and I see one of the best teams in the league… by FAR. But, due to match up problems, difficult starting line up decisions, and just a few little mistakes, the Steelers are 1-3 rather than 2-2 or even 3-1. Yes, Pleuss is 1-3, but consider this, of the three times that the Steelers have lost, at least two could have been massacres going for the Steelers. Also, Pleuss has had the 1st quarter schedule from hell. Of the three times Pluess’ Blue Steel have lost, the total record for the opponents adds up to 10-2. As I also said, add in a few little things and some starting changes, the team is 2-2 or 3-1. Need more proof that the Steelers should be ranked as high as I put them? The Steelers are projected to beat the Gamers this week. By A LOT. WITH 6 BYES ON HIS TEAM! Well, at least for this week, Dave won’t have any hard decisions to make.

6th:

Kep’s Mob Squad

Sixth place really could go either way with Kep or Bry’s Gamer’s as I feel they are very similar, but I will give it to Kep’s Mob Squad because their was the heartache game for Pete in week two, and also the higher point average goes to the Squad. The team is pretty on paper. Lots of hype, tons of big names, great potential, so why is the team that we feared going into draft day at a mere 2-2? To be quite frank, I’m not even sure, and now with injuries slowly building up around the team, the next few weeks could be very interesting for the Squad, the good thing for the Squad is the team has the depth to fill any injuries that have come their way so far. I loved the Julius Jones trade and I still think feel Pete just got away with Murder over in Maine. Again, the teams just kind of floating there, and I’m not entirely sure why.

7th:

Bry’s Gamers

This team looks like something out of a Tim Burton movie. Joe Flacco is doing better than Brady. Pierre Thomas is the starting RB as Marshawn Lynch is only now coming back from being in trouble. Weed fanatic Percy Harvin has become Judas’ number 1 target thus making him a surprise impressive rookie. The fact that you have a TOUGH decision at the defensive spot because the 49ers are the number 1 D and the Eagles are the 4th is mind boggling. Top names Brady, Forte, Edwards, have yet to impress. I honestly don’t know what to say… the Gamers have clearly lucked out on most of the current starters and should they happen to fail, the fact remains the BIG names are there to help out if needed!

8th:

Seal Clubbers

The Clubbers are on a two-game skid, and I don’t think they are out of the woods quite yet. Big bye weeks for big names come up in the following weeks, and lack of depth could keep them out of the spotlight until the hurricane of bye weeks passes on. Solid performance players in the starting roster though, you can’t take that away. Rivers is having a career season and Brandon Marshall is showing he was certainly worth the wait. The big question remains at the RB spot with Turner and Chris Johnson, it seems like they always need a big day out of at least one of the two to get that win. Maybe with Marshall proving himself, it won’t be as large of a concern and the weight won’t entirely be on the 1-2 RB’s shoulders.

9th:

MLSP

MLSP, I feel your pain. A few heartbreaks, a few tough decisions and a whole lot of losses, at the same time though, you left me at the bottom by myself… so screw off! Really not much to say about the Pets, other than hopefully with McNabb back and new addition Glen Coffee as a temporary solution, MLSP can get back on their feet and head back north of the equator. Thanks to the win over the ‘Canes, the Pets still have a very real chance at a playoff push. Key moves will be the deciding factor on whether or not the Pets make it through or not, and with Natey still floundering the bottom, the cream of the FA crop will come to him first.

10th:

Hurricane Ditka

I suck. Leave me alone.
