BFFL Weekly Report: Week 9

Posted by Danno on November-11-2009 2 Commented

As if any more excitement could happen in the league, this happens… Not one, not two, not three, but FOUR teams are tied for first place right now.  Yes, FOUR! This has never happened this late into the season. Add another twi

st to it… four teams are tied for last place. Not as exciting I know, but still an amazing feat? Maybe, heh. So with only four weeks left in the regular season, things still could go any which way.  A last place team could jump up to first, a first place team takes the dive to last, anything can happen.

Now onto a more serious note. As you all know, the articles are my little way to spice up the league.  I enjoy writing them, people enjoy reading them and the world is happy.  Articles don’t take nearly as much time out of my schedule either as a podcast does… This season I tried taking them to the next level with the podcasts, but unfortunately this was a failed attempt just due to the lack of man power and time consumption. I even purchased and created my own website to help support podcasts and such since ESPN would not allot them.  I don’t know what’s in the air this year but for some reason people think that this is the New York Times here, and there is an article deadline… and I’m taking heat from it.  But a recent comment put me over the top when it was a mild attack on the website I purchased as well.

Warner was vintage for the Squad

Warner was vintage for the Squad

So, starting next season, I’m going to do something a little different… get ready because it’s going to be big…  No more articles! Ever! Yup, after this season I’m done.  They really are enjoyable to write when it’s not like a work type environment, but it’s gotten to be like that more and more.  I don’t care if you criticize the articles themselves, in fact I encourage it. I love to see people battle back and forth on the comment board, or add in there two cents with stats I may have missed. But when you push me for something that I’m just trying to do for fun and not getting paid for, come on.  Now, I’m guessing I will miss writing a few times next season so I will probably cave and write at my own leisure, but as for the BFFL weekly report, the Year End Report will be my last.  Enough depressing talk though, lets get to this weeks Report!

Keps Mob Squad def. Gridiron Warriors 133.4 – 87.5

Well the Mob Squad must of took my word to heart, countering them into a grand performance versus the Warriors.  Either that, or the Warriors finally heeded to my calls of discontent.  Kurt Warner had the best game of his in literally a decade, throwing up 5 TD’s and nabbing 37.8 points.  A performance like this hasn’t been seen from him since his “second coming” during his St. Loius Rams day’s. Larry Fitzgerald… obviously benefited from Warner’s stellar performance as well having 22.8 points during his 9 reception, 123 yard, 2 TD day.  Including those two performances, there was six players total to break double digits.  MJD, Julius Jones would anchor the RB core with 12.6 and 12.2 points.  Hines Ward would also have 15.4 points and Stephen Gostkowski brought in 14 points.  It was a rare, near-perfect day for the Squad. In fact the only damper was Roddy White with a surprising 1.6 points.

Ok, in all honesty, the Warriors did play a good game, and the score they sported this past week would’ve beaten 7 other teams out there, but you know as well as I do, match ups can make or break a week.  The Warriors would have 5 players break into the double digits, and although none broke the 20 point tier, five double digit players is nothing to frown on.  Tony Romo led the way with 16 points, followed by Frank Gore and the Falcons D with 14.9 and 15.  Ray Rice also brought in 13.6 and Steve Smith had 10.1.  Surprisingly one of the best WR’s this year (Reggie Wayne) had the second lowest amount of points with 2.6.  Both teams made the right calls though leaving minimal points on the bench. As much as I dislike both of these teams… I can’t say a damn thing about them this week.  Near perfect football was played with the exception of Roddy White and Reggie Wayne, this makes for a nearly perfect GOTY.

Magnum PI def. The Turducken Clan 122.4 – 86.7

DeAngelo is runnin wild for PI

DeAngelo is runnin wild for PI

Much like his older brother, the Clan’s score would’ve beaten 6 other teams, just rotten match up luck to be playing the second highest scorer in the league.  Much like the Mob Squad, PI also had six double digit players.  DeAngelo Williams led the charge with an impressive 20.9 point game.  Williams has had four games in a row breaking double digits, and showing his worth of being a first rounder.  Manning, the Steelers D, and Olindo Mare would also bring up excellent scores of 16.3, 19,  and 14.  Not an overall vintage day for Manning but with help from PI’s supporting cast all around, 16.3 would be good enough.  PI is still playing championship caliber ball but be prepared to see a new face on this team in the coming weeks…

Alright, I really hope I wasn’t the bad omen by forgetting to install the Clan in the playoff prediction, but since that article, the Clan has yet to win.  Although four players broke the double digit mark, a QB with under 10 points hurt the Clan very much.  Ryan only had 7.9 points on the day while his high scorer would be WR Sims-Walker with 17.2 points. The Saints D further impressed with 16 points and Benson and Andre Johnson would round out the double digits, with 14.5 and 10.  Not much to be said here, the appropriate starts were made, just winning hasn’t been something we’ve seen from the Clan now for two weeks in a row. For the record though Kyle, this is still a playoff team.

Blue Steelers def. Hurricane Ditka 85.7 – 83.6

We’ll call this the dark ages for my fantasy teams this week. 0-3. Not a win in all three leagues. Watching two go under on Monday night as both opponents had Denver and Pittsburgh D’s…. sigh.  If there was any week to take out the red hot Steelers, it was this week, with Jackson and A-Pete having the bye and Schaub losing Owen Daniels. But thanks to a foolish bench move of Rashard Mendenhall, the Steelers would have my number.  Five players for the Blue Steel would go in double digits, helping counter any low points that may have came from Hightower, Roy Williams and Deven Hester.  V-Jax led the team with 15.5 and Schaub in a close 2nd with 15.3.  Ryan Grant, Vernon Davis and the Broncos D would also put up 10.5, 10 and 12 points.  The Steelers are hands down the best team in the BFFL, for right now.  Five game winning streak, and also proving capable of the W with his bench players.

If not for the fact that 3 other people held the same record as myself, this would in fact be, utter panic mode time.  The curse of the 6 has come upon me, and with only 4 games left, perfection with a dash of luck by my side, is near mandatory.  Yes I watched my lead slowly dwindle down and finally plummet once MNF came around but with Mendenhall’s 10 points laying on the pine rather than in the line-up, it hurts a little more.  Only 3 players broke double digits, Drew Brees, Michael Turner, and Neil Rackers (14.9, 23.9 and 12).  Although Turner has brought a vast improvement to the running game, a team still needs help from its supporting cast members, which he did not.  There are playoff spots still out there and one of these 3-6 teams will get one… but which one.

God’s Tallywackers def. MLSP 55.4 – 47

I don’t know what was uglier, the Packer game or this match up.  The Wackers helped aid in MLSP to get to the curse of the 6 and although Durkee’s team didn’t play much better… “a win is a win”.  A-Rod did manage to throw 20.8 points on the board dispite having one of the worse games of his career and losing to the lowly Bucs.  Randy Moss would also bring in 19.2 points but after that… scoring got ugly.  The next highest points on the team would be from new starting RB Ryan Moats with 6.6 points.  After that a combined 5 players would total a score 5.8 points.  Greg Olsen did amass 22.5 points, but unfortunately they were left on the bench, choosing Heath Miller over Olsen.  None-the-less, the Wackers move to 6-3 and join the four-way tie for first.

MLSP, it’s time to go to code red.  Although, strength of schedule isn’t horrid, two of the last four games are vs. the Blue Steelers and the Mob Squad.  As much as it pains me to say this, if the Mob Squad plays like they have the past 2 weeks, they could cause a ripple in the playoff race.  MLSP was led by the Seahawks D, with 20 points. No other double digits were on the starting roster.  McNabb and Cutler seem to be conspiring with eachother to screw over MLSP as now the newly started McNabb only put up 8.6 points to Cutlers 30.3.  A donut by a now injured Clinton Portis also led to the demise, although even a good game out of Portis may not have helped much.  Much like the rest of the 36ers, MLSP is circling the drain, not out yet, but not looking good.

The Seal Clubbers def. Bry’s Gamers 79.8 – 74.4

Johnson is helping the Clubbers get back on track

Johnson is helping the Clubbers get back on track

He’s not dead yet folks and the last place team is… well still the last place team, BUT along with three other teams.  More importantly, the once 1-6 Clubbers are now back in the playoff race and only one game out.  Despite the 3-6 record they must be looking at the glass half full in Clubberland. Now, onto the bad news… two of the next four games are vs. the Blue Steelers (6-3) and Magnum PI (6-3). To presumably make the playoffs in this league you probably have to beat at least one of those two, along with winning vs. the Canes and the Mob Squad.  Philip Rivers and Chris Johnson led the way with 20.5 and 23.1 points.  Brandon Marshall and David Akers would also get into double digits with 10.7 and 14 points. Here’s the formula to make the playoffs… Chris Johnson rocks it, Seal Clubbers are a threat.  It’s just to bad this doesn’t happen more often than not.

It’s heartbreaking to watch that lead go away… I can’t imagine its any better when you watch it being stolen from you by the last place team.  The Clubbers were that team. Forte has looked like a bigger bust then the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders combined bra size, and Pierre Thomas is seeing carries continually swooped in and taken by Bell and Bush. Brady would have an 18.9 point game and Driver and Carney putting up 10.3 and 13 points respectively. Although Pierre did have an 11 point game, the numbers could be so much more if not for Bush and Bell.  I’m disappointed to see no one ever tried for a trade or vice versa with Joe Flacco.  His middle name was trade bait this year, and could have been utilized to his full extent due to his talent level. That being said, Tom Brady could’ve been the trade bait and putting Flacco in the starting line up.  Bry’s Gamers may have the easiest schedule in the final four games of the four last place teams… The largest mogul though will be the top dog Warriors whom he will meet in week 11.

GOTY: Gridiron Warriors vs. Magnum PI

1st place vs. 1st place. Both teams are 6-3 and this could have major sway in who gets the number 1 seed.

Upset of the Week:  The Seal Clubbers over Blue Steelers

I could honestly see it.  The Clubbers have a sparatic team but with Chris Johnson facing the worst rushing D in the NFL, I think the theory could come into play… when Chris Johnson succeeds, so do the Clubbers.
