More amazing things have happened than this. Ed Norton and Johnny Depp have never won an Academy Award, Dan Marino never won a Super Bowl, “Arrested” Development” was canceled after only three phenomenal seasons, I never learned how to read! Ok, so the last one isn’t true but the fact remains that one more thing could be included in that list and that is that up until November 3rd, the Foo Fighter’s have never released a Greatest Hits. Now I can already hear all you pessimistic know-it-all’s yelling “You’re an idiot, they came out with a compilation of hits with their first live album in 2006 with “Skin and Bones”. To that I say screw off you’re a dumbass, and let me list the reason’s you couldn’t be more wrong. First off, Skin and Bones was mostly just Dave Grohl with his acoustic in hand, the band was seen in only a few sets. Secondly, it was live, and although I have nothing against live shows, or albums, there is obvious differences in the style of play and of couse, the cheering crowd in the background. Third, IT’S NOT A GREATEST HIT’S UNTIL THE ALBUM SAYS GREATEST HITS. PERIOD. Anyway, I will digress to the point in hand… Greatest Hits.
If you need any proof that the FF could withstand the generational gap, just gaze at the track list. Greatest Hits will be 16 songs long and will include classics such as “Learn to Fly”, “Monkey Wrench”, “Big Me” and next gen hits like “Long Road to Ruin”, “Best of You”, “The Pretender”. The album is very widespread and does an spectacular job dividing out songs equally amongst each album. The Colour and the Shape will be the most represented album with just 3 tracks. Not to leave anything out, the album will even include “Skin and Bones” from the EP Album Five Songs and a Cover (If you do not have this EP I highly recommend it, as the cover song is a well done Cream song). The band will also follow suit of what many artists do upon a greatest hits and add two new tracks into the mix as well. Already released is the song “Wheels” which shows the more upbeat side of Grohl. I can only speculate that the album will draw attention to both new and old FF fans seeing how it’s been almost 3 years since they went on “break” so in the end, we’re just glad to hear them again!
