For those who were expecting another award winning podcast, I’m sorry to disappoint. After prepping notes, recording, editing, re-recording, and multi-tracking, many hours have passed and it takes up most of my evening. I just did not have the ambition this week to do all of those things, so for that I apologize. Also with the Super Bowl of MNF games this coming week, we’ll see if I do a podcast for the week 4 games as well. So, that being said, I’m kickin’ it old school and using the figurative pen and pad to give you the rundown. Welcome to the week 3 BFFL Report.
The Turducken Clan 81.9 over Blue Steelers 81.7
So, we didn’t have a 0.4 decision this week, but rather these two decided to up the anti. A game decided by TWO TENTHS of a point. That makes three weeks, with three games decided by under 0.4, and might I remind you that we are only in week 3?? The Clan move up to the 2-1 mark with solid performances from most of his team. Four members would break double digits and Cedric Benson doing his part with a 9.7. Hey fantasy fans, the Bengals are for real and Benson’s comeback is bigger than Miley Cyrus new boobs. The fact that Felix Jones and Benson are the 1-2 RB punch right now seems laughable, but the only one laughing is Kyle. New addition Brent Celek also proved he’s far from a flavor of the week as he led the team with 15.6 points. The Charger’s D and Mason Crosby also major contributors as they put up a very impressive 12 and 14 points. Wrap it all up with a TD from Anquan Boldin and he further proves that even the most disgruntled receivers can still play if they really want to. Shaun Hill could’ve been a better choice at QB but with SF traveling to Minnesota, the logical decision was Ryan… that and you can’t make it a nail biter if you had Hill in.
The Blue Steelers have to be feeling just awful after this one, and to risk not leaving points on the bench any more this season, I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw 7 dropped players come from the Steelers team. 65.8 points left on the bench this week for the Blue Steel and for the second week in a row, they will drop their match up. Now, in all fairness, most of the points this week from Dave’s bench came from two QB’s (Campbell 24.2 and Palmer 13.4) and to further prove most of the right choices were made the top scoring QB was the starter. This doesn’t hide the fact that there was still 65.8 points on the bench. The big one was Greg Olsen. Pleuss would take the big gamble and try out Finley vs. St. Louis and sit Olsen vs. the Seahawks, which was a mega-fail. Olson would leave 9 points on the bench as Finley put up the huge donut. It’s not that the Steelers are playing poorly, but rather that Pleuss has had to make more difficult decisions than Johnny Jolly at a drive up window. Schaub had 28 points, and Cotchery and Vincent Jackson put up 15.6 and 10. Even without A-Pete help, Steven Jackson stepped up with a solid 9.5. Again, this is a SOLID Steelers team, just who do you start?? The defending champs drop to 1-2.
Gridiron Warriors 59.4 over Hurricane Ditka 45
Could this be the Warriors year? Mentally preparing for Andy’s big F*** You, I say, no. BUT, this doesn’t hide the fact that the Warriors move on to 3-0 and will remain the last undefeated team left in the BFFL. How did this team wind up breaking 100 points in the first week? The Warriors for the second week in a row have sported the lowest winning score, but hey… a win is a win, and they will sit at least one more week in first place, now all by their lonesome. Frank Gore coming off a stellar week will be deeply missed as he brought the donuts to the dinner table for Andy, and put up the 0. Now injured expect to see Ray Rice or Shonn Green starting in his spot for the next few weeks. Only two players on the Warriors team would break double digits as the pair of WR Wayne and Steve Smith (not the one stuck on a QB-less team) had 16.4 and 10.4. Kevin Smith also had 9.1 but also with injury questions on the rise for this coming week. I love the fact that the Warriors are is 3-0, I really do, the team has paid it’s dues and needs to make a playoff run sooner than later… but injury bugs have struck the team early and now with bye weeks starting things may be bleak.
As for the once proud ‘Canes, this just isn’t the season. A team built around one amazing player is great, but if he doesn’t score, neither does the team itself. Then again, Brees has had 2 good weeks before this and they still lose! Brees only having 3.1 points and the lone double digit performer was a salty Ravens D, this never bodes well. Remember how I said that there isn’t time to panic yet for the winless teams quite yet? Well for Podell’s Cane’s, I think the switch may have to turn on. The 6th playoff seeded team last season had 7 losses, Ditka and MLSP already have 3. To secure a lower level spot not only will already take a huge turnaround in a team, but also luck will have to be on their side. This prediction kills me, but with both winless teams MLSP and Ditka going head to head this coming week, I believe the loser of the bout, can start thinking about next season.
Bry’s Gamers 71.3 over MLSP 52.8
This brings me to my next 0-3 team… MLSP. The Gamers showed very little remorse for the Pets as 3 players broke double digits, including one 21 showing from Pierre Thomas. Tom Brady would also have 14.1 and Donald Driver having an 11.8 day as well. If and when Matt Forte ever breaks out of this sophomore slump, this team could be dangerous. Flacco also drools for his chance to play when the Pats have their bye week as he just leaves double digits on the bench week after week, this time being 19.2. Is everyone else that confident in their QB’s?? How come I haven’t seen any trade attempts on Flacco! Although I believe Harvin should be starting in the flex every week, Marshawn Lynch will be rearing his head and trying to get into the starting line up as well this coming week… should be interesting to follow.
As for MLSP, I feel ya man. This game could’ve been MLSP’s first victory of the season, if not for one little switch in the line up at QB. Cutler, leaving 23.2 points on the bench and Trent Edwards only throwing up 3 points hurts a team. There was 3 players breaking double digits in the starting lineup however, with Jacobs with 10.5, McCoy with 10.2 and the Bronco’s D with 16. The thing that raises an eyebrow to me the most… the trading away of Julius Jones for Ahmad Bradshaw. Now, Bradshaw DID break 100 yards on the day and perhaps a TD would have made me not think twice about it being a fair trade. But a feature back for a back up, just didn’t seem ok, as Julius Jones instantly was put into a flex spot and did 12.6 points worth of damage for Pete’s Squad, but we’ll get to that in a minute. Like I mentioned before, this up and coming game vs. the also winless Hurrican Ditka’s is going to be crucial for both teams, and the loser can probably kiss playoff chances goodbye.
Keps MOB Squad 88.7 over The Seal Clubbers 62.6
Should the MOB Squad be 3-0? Absolutely not, a loss is a loss, but this game was sure a stand to prove that they do belong on the top. This weeks top performing team had a staggering five players break double digits, including a 28.3 point day from MJD. Giants D and Stephen Gostkowski also did there part with a 14 and 12 point days, and round out Warner’s 15 points and the already mentioned Julius Jones, life was good. Now, there was some holes in the line up with Larry Johnson getting a -0.5 and Tony Gonzalez with a 0.7 but at least with Gonzo, these are rare occasions. Although now with Julius Jones, I fore-see a 3 WR set with either Ward or Coles possible taking over LJ’s spot, but that will remain to be seen.
I start with the Clubber’s with a similar question I just did for the MOB Squad. Should the Seal Clubbers be 0-3? Absolutely not, a win is a win even if it is by 0.4 points, but this game just wasn’t one of those good day. An outstanding day out of Philip Rivers and David Akers, that really was about it for the Clubbers… at least on the starting line up. 57.5 points remained on the bench, which may not have swayed a victory, but things would have been much closer. Fred Taylor finally had a coming out party in NE with 14.2 points, and the same for Brandon Marshall in Denver with 10. The Clubbers have huge potential as the 1-2 RB’s are solids, River’s is showing he’s the face of the franchise and talent riddling the bench… so why aren’t they winning more? It’s still early for the Clubbers, and I expect them to be one of the top tier teams by the end of the season.
Magnum PI 86 over Gods Tallywackers 80.3
Even Plaxico would be embarrassed for Durkee on this one, as leaving Bowe in the starting line-up was a shot in the leg. If you include the bench, the Tallywackers would have EIGHT players in double digits. One in particular that could have been the difference maker would be Santana Moss with 19.5 in for a big zero from an injured Dwayne Bowe. Derrick Mason also had 15.5, Knowshon Moreno with 10.5, Willie Parker with 12.4. Willie Parker should have also gotten the start as Tomlin did not play Mendenhall at all. The kicker, is how close the game would remain even with all that prime rib on the bench. Aaron Rodgers would have a 27.3 point day, DeSean Jackson with 17.2, Randy Moss with 10.5 and Packers D with 11. Chalk this one up to not staying up to date with the Bowe mistake, but consider this… If that much talent is on the bench and they still just about pull off the win, imagine what happens when owner Durkee pays attention.
Now, I did pretty much just say Magnum PI won because of Durkee’s faults, but that’s hardly all the reason. Manning had a 36.1 day and Dallas Clark and Ryan Longwell put up 11 and 10.4 points. Very few points were left on the bench minus Brett Favre which is the obvious sit, because he is the anti-christ. Addai and Ricky Williams could’ve started but you can’t start Ricky with Ronnie Brown starting and DeAngelo Williams and McGahee just make more sense than Addai. I feel there needs to be a major change at WR for Christensen’s team, but once that is figured out… like Kevin Garnett ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!!!
Game of the week:
SOOO many good games in week 4, but I gotta go with a surprise pick Ditka vs. MLSP. Now I know you will question this mainly because this is my team. But I give us the GOTW because not only do both teams have so much to prove and at stake, they will be the match up least affected by the up and coming bye weeks. I will give BIG notable mentions to the Clan vs. the Gamers and the Wackers vs. the MOB Squad, as both match ups are 2-1 vs. 2-1 teams.
Upset of the week: If you couldn’t tell already by the articles it should be an easy one… Steelers over the Warriors giving Andy his first loss of the season.
Thanks everyone and I hope you forgive me for going old school and writing rather than podcasting!! Good luck to everyone!!!
[...] BFFL Week 3 Report | Keep Danno Amused [...]
I am crying…..
Haha – oh I won’t say F U – I will just say “just wait…” I have been getting great matchups, and sometimes that is more than half the battle when it comes to doing well in fantasy (look at you with Brees, and just ask Dave last year!) I am just biding my time
I have to make a few changes in the lineup this week. When somebody drafted for me, he left alot of holes for the WR bye week situation. However, I should come out smelling like roses and another W in the column, because, afterall, my team is just overall round and sound, balance in the attack. A few players slip, MJD comes in for a banner day. That’s what makes a true champion.
Boooo ya Puddle Jumper! Great work on the article. Your gonna give Kornheiser a run for his money some day.
Love the updates Danno…I do have a suggestion though. Keep doing the weekly game reviews, but would you be willing to do a “status” update. For instance, after week 4, we’ll be a 1/4 of the way through the regular season…who’s trending up, who’s trending down, any major surprises, any more disappointments, etc. This could be a good opportunity to get another voice involved…as I’m sure most of us have opinions on how this league is going so far this season. Just a thought…
I usually do a mid-season report. If I abandon the podcasts I could do a quarterly report instead. We’ll see how things go. I would love to continue doing podcasts and I hope I can yet for most of the season, the problem is that they do take up a lot of time… writing an article is so much faster. We will see what happens in the coming weeks! Good luck BFFL-ers!
