Rockband: The Beatles

Until now, I really did believe Guitar Hero was the superior of the two rhythm games.  Until now, that is.  Rock Band’s highly anticipated “Beatles” edition comes out tomorrow (9-9-09) . Apple Corps., MTV, and Harmonix have been on a three year journey creating this game, from spending countless hours breaking down each of the games 44 songs (plus potential unannounced bonus songs), and countless meetings with the remaining Beatles to make sure it looks and sounds as real as the original Beatles.  All the hard work will pay off though as the worlds most recognizable rock band will be immortalized with in a gorgeous digital world of light and sound.

It’s hard to even imagine that someone hates the Beatles, unless they’re some ignorant 15 year old that thinks music revolves around the hip-hop and pop-rock, thinking that Shinedown is the pinnacle of rock.  But this game is set to attract all generations.  Enter the story mode, you start at the beginning of the Beatles career performing in what we know as infamous Beatles set locations, such as Liverpool’s Cavern Club, to such places as the unforgettable “Ed Sullivan Show” appearance or Budokan in Japan.   The artistic form of the game grasps you so strongly that you almost want to not play the game and rather sit back, and just watch and listen.   As the time line moves forward, so does the bands look and sound.  Moving onward to songs from the White Album and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band moving into a more “colorful” period of their career, beards and all.

The game will be priced at $59.99 but there will be special edition sets as well. The rock band package which includes the game and guitar, drums, mic works will be priced at $139.99. Also the special Beatles edition game will be the game but also the replica guitars and drum set that the Beatles. Truly a hardcore Beatles fan dream come true.

The game does have one major downfall and that is it’s seemingly short song list.  With only 45 song’s (half of a normal rock band game) you can probably play through the entire story mode, in one evening,  granted, it will be a most enjoyable experience.  But because it is the Beatles, and because the game sets such an authentic portrayal of the legendary band, it is still worth the purchase.   Beatles song’s never get old, they will stick in your head, they will trickle down from generation to generation, and they will always be the kings, of rock and roll.
